How we charge

Unlike traditional law firms working in commercial and corporate law (including construction law), which charge in six-minute increments, we prefer to apply a fee structure that is easy to understand, more flexible and specifically applicable to the scope of work at hand.

If the scope of work changes or grows, we are upfront in discussing this with you so that there are no surprises.

Our legal services are governed by the Legal Practitioners Act 1981 (SA) and while our contract management services are not governed by the Act, we assure you that our business is run ethically and is underpinned by our values.

Our fees

Fixed fees

Like most of our clients, we don’t like surprises when it comes to fees. We want you to be on the front foot and able to plan ahead. For that reason, we like to use the ‘fixed fee’ approach, when the scope allows for it.

As many of our clients on projects are familiar with the milestone payment model, we also structure our fees so that you receive invoices monthly, as milestones are reached.

Time-based billing

We know that one size does not fit all, so we are flexible enough to structure our fees as necessary. You can still opt to be charged for actual time spent on your project (time-based billing). This means that we will record our time spent on work done for you and invoice you for it on a monthly basis.

Before we start working with you

Before we start work with you, we will:

  • meet to discuss the scope of work and provide some preliminary advice;
  • send you a quotation (if the scope is suitable for a fixed fee arrangement) and a short ‘letter of engagement’ to sign; and
  • send you confirmation to start the work, after receiving the signed letter of engagement.

Want to know the ‘fit’ is right for you?

We offer an initial 15-minute complimentary session; obligation-free. This can be done in person, by phone or by video conference.
